Haunted? Yes, by a woman in her 50's, and a
short, stocky man who reminded me of a furniture salesman.
Investigation Results: Yes, it's long...but
you guys gotta read this!
This 92 year old house, located in central Eugene
close to downtown, has been divided into a duplex. Both residents
have had their animals act strangely from time to time, from
the one resident's dog barking at something unseen at various
wall locations, to the other's cats becoming fixated upon something
(or someone) in the doorway of their bedroom.
Activity also reported was a floor lamp moving
by itself after the resident re-arranged the living room, knocking
sounds during the night, and a treadmill starting on its own
and going full speed while turned off. Both residents report
visitors to the house claiming to feel drained or tired after
their visit, as well as neither "apartments" ever
feeling warm enough, even in the summertime.
The resident who initially contacted us, also
stated that she had seen a clear apparition of a dog in her
living room, which after looking at her for a few seconds, faded
out into nothingness.
Impressions upon arrival were immediately of
an older, female spirit, who did a lot of wandering between
the two duplexes. EMF meter spiked to 100 as the 3 of us were
standing in the resident's kitchen, and a cold spot feeling
like a blast of refrigerated air swept through us. This is also
the exact area where the resident says her dog will stare and
bark incessantly at "nothing." It seemed like the
"lady" was making her presence known to all of us!
Martina felt that the woman had died in the
house. She said that she had passed away due to an illness that
she had had for quite some time. Another impression received
was that she saw a man in the house, but felt it was not her
husband. Upon our visit to the basement, Martina could see this
man working downstairs in this area, and believed that he spent
a lot of time down there working, although she didn't feel he
was one of the ghosts in the house, but an impression that someone
was showing to her.
A VERY interesting facet to this investigation
is the local newspaper that the resident, (we'll call her K.),
found up in the attic a while back, and had recently come across
again. She saved the paper thinking that there was possibly
some significance to it. What struck the resident as odd during
our investigation, is that Martina was getting the number "52"
and threw out that the age of the woman in the house when she
died was maybe "52." K. looked at Martina and said,
"Are you sure it's 52?" Martina said yes, the number
52 kept coming up.
It was then that K. showed us this newspaper.
Now, we did this investigation on September
11th, 2004. The date of this newspaper was hauntingly
dated September 11th, 1952.
We immediately agreed with K. that there HAD
to be some significance to the saving and for her finding this
newspaper, but for what purpose? One of the advertisements in
the paper was for a Big Y Market, where a photograph graced
the ad - a glowing photo of that year's Miss America winner,
who was scheduled to appear at this food superstore. Still confused
at the unknown connection, Martina was very much drawn to the
ad, the photograph, and to the Big Y Market.
Upon our second visit to the other adjoining
apartment, strong cigarette or cigar smoke was detected which
we had not noticed before. Now, it must be added that the owner,
who was away for the weekend at the time of or investigation,
is a smoker, however, all ashtrays were CLEAN and were noted
to be so. Martina also pointed out an oily/cooking smell in
the kitchen, as if someone had recently cooked something with
bacon or grease.
Martina also felt a spirit following her around in this apartment,
who had not been there before, and re-iterated this upon her
return to the others in K.'s apartment. She said he had an "Archie-Bunker"
face and body-type. She said he reminded her of a "furniture
salesman." It was obvious too, that he was "really
curious," and Martina claimed that he had a strange look
on his face while she was smudging the apartment, as if he was
baffled and wondered what the hell she was doing!
Now, the resident of the "smoky" apartment
was not available during our investigation. However, when K.
related to her our "Archie Bunker" encounter, she
was a little shocked and startled, because she herself had come
home from work too many times to count, and it smelled like
somebody had just finished smoking a cigarette in her apartment.
EVP's captured were of BIG interest to everyone,
which is why I'm going into such detail with this synopsis.
Some of the most telling voices picked up were that of a woman
saying, "Check
out the wiring," as well as, "Lights
are so flammable." I mentioned this to K.,
as she had reported during our investigation that her kitchen
and bathroom bulbs had blown out in the past couple of months,
and now the outlets would not work. I sent her copies of the
EVP's so she could hear them for herself.
Following our investigation, and due to the
above EVP's, K. decided to contact an electrician to come in
and check things out.
Below is an email I received from her about
a week later that reported some interesting things. Here K.
tells us about the results of some of her most recent research
on the home- in her own words, following our investigation she
became "Nancy Drew"! : :
"Seems a "Daisy" lived here
for about 25 years. Moved here with her hubby, Telemacus, a
salesman, in the 1920s, and who died in the house in 1942. Daisy
died in 1949,, a widow.
At the time she died she was living in the house with a man,
Douglas, a cabinet maker. Maybe he was a tenant. And perhaps
he is the guy you saw tinkering in the basement workshop, who
you said wasn't her husband?
Daisy's birthday
was September 12th - the day AFTER your visit!"
Wow, that's pretty validating, but the following
is REALLY interesting to us! :
"I want to mention that the light in
the bathroom totally blew out (and wouldn't work at all until
the electrician showed up). The light blew up literally 10
minutes before you and Todd arrived! An electrician came
in today and saw, right off the bat, that at least 3
old fixtures need to be replaced. He showed me a brittle
wire in the kitchen socket. I asked if it was a fire hazard.
He said that old wires like that are the number
one cause of house fires. I think the ghost (G. prefers
to call her a "guardian spirit") warned us! Maybe
'Archie Bunker' was trying to tell us about the wiring, too.
Or did he just want to hang out and smoke?"
Now, I have to say, that this is an extremely
validating turn of events that we have never encountered before!
We all feel that we can breathe a lot easier,
thanks to the ghosts that are watching out for
their living residents, and who used our visit to warn
the residents of possible fire hazard. Does that mean there
was, at one time, a fire in the house? Or maybe, the ghosts
were just aware of the wiring and didn't want anything to happen
to the people living there? I like to believe the latter, personally.
It makes for a different ghost-story, without the creepiness.
They are helpful, caretaking spirits- just like these people
were during their LIFE.
~Todd and I wish to
thank K. for her trust and hospitality while we invaded her
living space, as well as her friend, "skeptic G.".
who didn't show his skepticism during our conversations (maybe
he was being nice!), and to C. who we didn't get to meet, but
was trusting & kind enough to allow us access to her ghosts
while she wasn't home. Also, thanks to the ghosts- Daisy, and
her husband, for keeping an eye on the place and proliferate
the well being of its current residents.
