Haunted?
Well...my belief is that yes, it is haunted, but mostly
residual. The apparition Kate seemed to have captured is looking downwards and
not at any of us directly. There is enough energy here from all the patrons of
the theatre, for a few entities to retain residence here and be active and conscious,
athough I did not find that to be the case. However,
I have to speculate that because of all the different energies retained within
its walls from it's history as a religious establishment and a funeral home, this
is the main reason why this place really drains you! That is the one thing that
the manager here did NOT deny ever experiencing. She said she is always
dead-tired (pun intended) after working at the Bijou. I was personally
very drained after leaving this location, and this lingering physical effect from
our visit was also voiced by many of our students.
History
of the Bijou
Built
in 1924-25 as the First Congregational Church, United Church for Christ, by the
famous architect WRB Willcox. Willcox also built several major buildings in Burlington,
Vermont, and some research material can be found on him in the University of Oregon's
special archives. After serving as a church for several years, the building was
moved to its current location and served as a funeral parlor and chapel in 1956
under the name McGaffey-Andreason Mortuary.
The building was placed on the
National Register of Historic Places in 1980.*
We were extremely fortunate to be allowed access
to this Spanish-Mission styled theatre, where the most amazing students from our
Ghost Hunting 101 class got to practice their ghost investigative techniques.
There are 2
theatres in this establishment- Theatre 1 and Theatre 2. Theatre 1- claiming to
be the more "active" theatre, and the one where management hears employees
talk about paranormal activity. Strangely, even though we all were aware of this,
class investigators continually found a glut of strange activity happening in
Theatre 2.
One
of the more common complaints our students voiced on Saturday in what we considered
"hot" locations, was a feeling of lightheadedness, dizziness or slight
nausea. I believe these symptoms are not uncommon for many people who are having
their first experiences with ghostly presences.
So
far, I have only one photo from my students, and that is the fantastic apparition
shown below. Please keep in mind that no one in our group was wearing such clothing.
The one person in our group wearing a white shirt was actually TESTED in the same
location and photographed with the same camera- this was done to rule out the
possibility of the figure being one of us; the test turned out to be negative.
I
just want to say that I am SO PROUD of everyone in the class, and they all went
in with such positive and open minded attitudes, that it is no wonder that some
great photographs were acquired here! YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
Congratulations to ALL my
students for performing such a fantastic & successful investigation!!

An
apparent Apparition caught in Theatre 2 resembles a form in white with a beret
and a possible tie. Is it possible that he is a creative/artsy fellow who enjoys
watching the Bijou's array of independent films?

A
close-up of the Apparition. WOW! GREAT JOB KATE!!!!

A
couple of Orbs that did not disappear with contrasting - both photos caught in
Theatre 2.

A
strange little moving light appears in between 3 students.
